Color & Cut Out Trending Styles of '22

For Spring we usually see a lot of focus on florals and pastels. And while color has always been a marker for Spring and warmer weather, bold color is coming full force this season! In fact, for the past few season we have been embracing more and more bold palettes across the board, through all seasons. So, it is no surprise to me that color is coming at us bolder than ever this Season. Not only are we seeing bold colors but the contrast and mix of these colors are show stopping.

We see it in styles from designers like Simon Miller, Versace, Alice + Olivia and Christian Dior.

We also see loads and loads of cut out styles this season. We had a little preview of cut outs last Spring with Spring dress styles baring sides and midriffs. However, we have come full blast this season with cut outs in all knit tops and knot dress baring shoulders, collar bones in peek-a-boo designs and shapes! I love it. With so many styles you choose how much and where you want to dare to bare.

For this particular project, I used a Lycra Spandex Stretch fabric that I picked up on a whim at my local Walmart Super center. You can find prized bundled fabrics there every now and then so I like to peek at there bundles when ever I drop in. This was a 3 Yard piece. I first drafted my turtleneck piece. Then I used marking chalk to draw out the cut out, keeping in mind I would need to leave at least 1/4 inch to turn under to finish the cut out edges.

I had about 1/2 yard of this fabric left and instead of saving it as a remnant, I used it to add a asymmetrical skirt to the hem of the top. There wasn't enough for a full skirt but I love that I can layer this over capris, leggings or pants. It makes for a great layering piece.

I styled this look with my faux leather Obi belt which is a dupe of the Loewe Obi Belt, a pair of cropped black knit pants which I created from my favorite cropped pants pattern by McCalls 7843. The white purse is a dupe of Bottega Veneta Jodie bag and the boots are Asos mens. All the links to the look and dupes are available under the photo or find it on my LTK page .

Until Next Time!

Marcia
