Measure Fabric Feature: Indigo Shibori look that's Tie Dye For

Hello Gems! This month's Measure Make I am featuring a beautiful Shibori Tie Dye linen like cotton fabric. I absolutely love a good tie dye and this Indigo is a fabulous color for the summer.

Tie Dye is a classic summer print! I don't know about you but, for me its one of those prints that creates nostalgic memories for me as a child growing up in the 80's. Good news though we can still enjoy a good tie tye print in 2021! I mean have you seen all the gorgeous Tie Dye trends lately?

The Shibori method of creating this nostalgic print lends an air of edginess and culture to your garments. With so many chic and trendy ways to wear and create tie dye there is no reason not to add a little bit of this magic to your sewing projects and into your closet!

This particular Shibori printed fabric is a linen like cotton. It features a repeated diamond shape pattern that is absolutely gorgeous. It is 100% cotton with a heavier drape and feel than most linens suited for garments. However, it is still very breathable and makes great medium weighted fabric for your projects. This fabric is very suitable for draperies, throw pillows, comforters, place mats and other homewares but, of course I created this fabulous garment from it.

For this look I drew inspiration from Matthew Burch Safari Cropped linen top and I hacked Simplicity Pattern 8830 and created it with a puff sleeve. For this pattern I hacked the lapel and collar to create sort of a double lapel collar. I omitted the buttons, to give this a wrap top style. I shortened the top just at the waist and added an extra long drawstring to the hem to wrap around the waist.

For this look I kept the bottom simple! I played with a couple of different ideas for this look! Im not big on short shorts so I thought I would go with a high-waisted knee-length skirt which I ended up self drafting. A skirt is a versitile piece and nods to this 80's- 90's era of denim skirts and matching denim jackets but in a modern way of course!

I kept the styling on this look casual and cool with my highlighter green Hurricane Teva sandals and a clear beaded MNG bag! I mean if Im going to pay tribute to the 80's and 90's Tie Dye and Denim inspired sets, I have to have a little neon and a statement bag to pull together my look! Just saying!

Until Next Time!
