Hello Gems! So happy its Fall finally. I love dressing for this time of the year. Its the one time of the year I can get the most out of my seasonal pieces by layering. Everything is so transitional, so just about anything goes. Still certain fabrics, prints, colors and silhouettes put me in the Fall mood and I just can't resist.
Moods Exclusive Navy Serpentine Salvation Viscose Twill was perfect for creating this two piece Fall ensemble! The fabric is so drapey that it literally melts into the skin. Its perfect for flowy dresses and pieces that skim the shape of the body.
But can we talk about the colorway! This time of year is marked with warm hues, deep rich colors such as emerald green, burgandy, golds, browns and even navy, but this pink floral on navy combo with the gold accents is such a great palette. I just just love the contrast!
I used McCalls pattern 8147 to create the blouse. Its a raglan style blouse which gives a little more ease and comfort around the arm and shoulder. I finished the arm hem with elastic and added ties. As for the collar, come to find out this blouse looks even better when worn backwards so I decided to style this one from the back for this look. You know I love my options.
For the skirt I used New look pattern 6702. I believe the largest size is an 18 so, I did grade up a bit, which I usually do when patterns fall short a few inches of my measurements.
I found this pattern very beautiful and simple to create. However, Im a little curvier in the hip and even with my intended fit corrections it seams I missed the fit around the hip area a bit and made further adjustments at the waist in order for it to fit me correctly. Nevertheless, I love the whole silohette. Its chic, modern and I have already started mixing it up with other pieces from my wardrobe.
So one of my favorite pieces to create other than dresses has to be outerwear and I couldn't pass up Mood’s Brown Leopard print stretch cotton denim. It makes the perfect trench and I don't know why I hadn't made one in leopard print before. I mean it is a classic wardrobe staple in one of the boldest and most classic neutrals ever. Just sayin...😘
This fabric is a medium to heavy weight denim. It has a bit of stretch to it which can be great for comfort and fit . Just remember to give these stretchy cottons a pre wash before cutting to wash away any chemicals set in the fabric from production, and to make the fabric softer for sewing and wearing. It also pre shrinks so that you have no trouble with shrinkage after your garment has been made.
I used Style Arc Patterns Tracy Trench for this particular make. It is a double breasted coat. And even though I left off the breast buttons, its perfectly oversized! There is a front flap with button and the epaulets, which I love. These are classic features of the military style trench and my favorite accents to this jacket. I did add the epaulets and their buttons. The welted pockets are oversized and fabulous. I constructed the arm hem with a pleat and strap with button. This was an add on that was not featured in the original pattern.
I enjoyed creating this trench and Im excited to add it to my collection of outwear. I feel as if this trench could be worn as a dress or over coat. How about you?
This Fall Mood line up would not be complete without one of my favorite dress silohettes. The undeniable wrap dress. No matter what trend or style of dress is in at the moment I always find my self coming back to the wrap dress. Its iconic and one of the easiest to wear.
The wrap dress is always on trend and re-inventing itself. Im a forever fan of this traditional style of dress. It can be made from just about any fabric. Moods Exclusive Elysian Illumination Viscose twill in light blue was screaming to be transformed into this iconic silohette. This fabric like my first fabric has the same drapey and buttery quality.
The fabric gave me nostagic 70's vibes. Dare I say it reminds me of my favorite paisley pattern?! I was inspired to break out one of my favorite vintage wrap blouse patterns, New Look 6081, as the base of this dress and create a skirt to add on to it. I also added ruffles to the arm hem on this one. I think it gives it a little fun flirty arm accent.
The wrap dress is essentially a sensual dress and can be very flirty and sexy. I was feeling all those moods in this piece! Needless to say, I love the whole look and had to throw on my platform heel sandals, which I haven't worn in a while, along with this vintage style leather clutch. And of course this nostalgic look wouldn't be complete without a neck scarf. The whole vibe is "dynamite"!🥰
