Hello Gems! Who's in the Mood for cool, wearable early Fall transition pieces? For me, transitioning into Fall wardrobe is all about maintaining the lightness of fabrics that make summer fashion so much fun yet introducing the warmer side of the color palette and making it suitable for cooler weather as well as warm weather.
With that said, my MSN Featured fabrics and looks are made for early Fall and with a little styling efforts and layering they could take me well into even cooler weather.
For my first look, I went with Moods Exclusive Ornate Ornamentation Cotton. This is a true paisley print. And for those of you who have been following me for a while you know how much I love a good paisley print. With Fall around the corner Ive seen so many paisley prints poping up for the season. It is the perfect print for Fall and I just had to create a look with it.
To keep this piece suitable for these last days of summer I chose a lighter colorway with warm accents in a breathable cotton fabric. The fabric has a cool crisp hand. Its lighter weight but not transparent. I used Butterick 5935 for the corset top, lining it and top- stitching it to give it a quilted look. This gives the top a little more sturdiness making it easier to transition to a vest over turtlenecks and longer sleeves when the weather is cooler.
For the skirt I used Simplicity 8958. Made from this cotton fabric. Its great for warm weather and for cooler days, a sweater or cardigan suits this piece just fine.
For my second look I chose Mood's Exclusive Flourishing Fortune Rayon Batiste fabric. It's a more vibrant fabric but this shade of green is just about suitable for any season and it pairs so well with black, brown or white.
The fabric is a drapey medium weight fabric. Its just light enough for warmer weather but great for layering in cooler weather. I mean how cool would this piece be with a pair of knee high boots or even layered over a pair of jeans.
This look is self drafted with a V neck bodice and button down front attached to an A- line shaped skirt. The sleeves are bishop with shirred cuffs at the hem. I created a belt tie with this look which I have shown here in the pic worn around the neck for a different look! This look is one of my favorites and I have already made plans for another one.
The final look I created to transition into Fall is made with Moods Exclusive Red Dapple Daring Cotton Poplin. I've had my eye on this fabric for a while. I love poplin fabric! It's a lightweight crisp fabric with a cool hand. It's great for lots of different projects and garments. Plus, it's made of cotton and it's breathable. Poplin is the perfect fabric for beginner sexist.
Since my first two looks were a little more fitted I decided to create a more voluminous look from this poplin fabric. I used New Look shirt pattern 6704 as the base of this look and added tiered layers to transform it into a dress.
The poplin fabric surely keeps this fabric light and breathable for warmer weather however, the volume along with the long sleeves and high neckline gives this look a little more depth and coverage for cooler weather. It pairs great with tall boots and even tights as the weather cools. I love the comfort of this type of frock dress! Great for days you need to grab a quick look with no fuss and go.
