Mood Fabrics (MSN) Feature: Setting the Mood w/One Shoulder Looks
Hello Gems! Lately I’ve had a taste for asymmetrical looks! I’ve always thought these looks were eye catching and flattering! These half, shoulder bearing styles can be achieved in so many ways, with just about any fabric and are always very attractive. This month as part of my collaboration with Mood Fabrics and the Mood Sewing Network, I created two one shoulder looks each with a little different spin on them.
The first one shoulder look I created with Moods Exclusive Neon Fusion Bursting Reflections Cotton Fabric! It is so enchanting! At first look this fabric gave me cotton candy, ribbons in the clouds, pastel salt water taffy vibes. It’s a sure nod to 80’s fashion! The fabric is a light weight fabric with a crisp hand. It has a pastel Tie Dye print that is absolutely dreamy.
I drafted a bodice block for this top first and then added the puff sleeve. The elastic mid drift is attached separately as is the self drafted skirt. I created the mid drift just as you would a rectangle for shirring. I made two long tie strings and added them to the midriff seam. This is a cool detail that I thought would add to the look, along with the oversized bow at the sleeve shoulder. The bow tie at the shoulder adds volume and drama to an already puffy sleeve and I love a dramatic sleeve!
As for styling this dreamy look, gold accessories were the perfect accent to set off this colorful assemble! I paired it with my gold platform lace up gladiator sandals, keeping it down to earth but still feeling like I’m floating on a cloud!
For my second one-shoulder look I went a little sultry. Taking a step back from the 80’s, I honed in on 70’s vibes and silhouettes. Of course we all know by now, this was my favorite era and I continue to revisit the silhouettes and styles of the 70’s. Nevertheless, this dress has smoother lines and a sleeker silhouette. Creating a different mood than that of my first one-shoulder look.
I used Mood’s Exclusive Idle Hours Cotton Voile fabric for this Bold Sultry yet cool look! The pattern resembles a large scale patch work with warm greens and gold tones! One of my favorite color palettes which, I feel could carry this look over to the early Fall season also. The fabric is a voile so it's super lightweight and flowy. It has a nice soft drape to it and its light and airy for warmer weather.
I used Vogue Pattern V1697 for the base of this dress using it as the shell for my raglan sleeve one shoulder mash up. I used the sleeve and neck band from McCalls Pattern 8147 to construct my sleeve and necktie. I extended the neck band to create the tie at the neck. I'm loving the way this look came together!
I wanted to keep this look casual chic, because honestly this is how I would wear it on any giving day! So, I styled it with my Converse Run Star Hike High Top Sneakers in Black and my Green DIY Furoshiki Bag to pull this look together. However, either of these looks could be paired with beautiful heels and blingy accessories to dress them up for a special occasion or maybe brunch with the girls!
Until Next Time!
