Summer's Trendiest Color & DIY Summer Dress

Hello Gems! Summer is quickly coming to an end but I can’t seem to leave summer behind with out sharing a few more of my summer favs and coveted looks!

This summer has brought us some great looks and we can not ignore the bright and beautiful colors and prints either. Yellow has definitely been a big trend this summer, as it should be. Nothing says summer like a vibrant bright yellow. So I just had to add something in my wardrobe in this beautiful color. I can't believe I didnt have anything in true bright yellow already. Highlighter yellow? YES! Mustard Yellow? Of course! But this true shade of yellow is definitely drawing attention to my closet.

Well, instead of sourcing a true yellow fabric I decided to do a little fabric dying for myself just to make sure I got the color I desired! So I picked up a bottle of Rits dye in golden yellow 💛 and dyed a fabric I already had in my collection. You guys may have recognized this fabric from a recent Mood fabric Haul. Its the beautiful White Flocked Dotted Cotton-Polyester Woven Fabric from Mood Fabrics. Unfortunately, this fabric is out of stock now. Can't say Im surprised, but if it should ever resurface and I found out I will be sure to let you all know.

I feel in love with this fabric at first site and knew I would create something I loved from it. The large woven dots are so stylish and right on trend. The fabric is semi sheer, soft and the woven dots add texture and interest to this fabric. It was the perfect fabric for this bright yellow dyed piece.

I went with a simple frock to show case the beautiful dots. McCalls pattern M8202 is a Spring/Summer 2021 pattern release. I love the simplicity and volume in the pattern and thought it would make a great dress. I extended the length of the view C top and added a ruffle to the hem. I also added spaghetti ties to the waist to wrap and cinch waist when I wanted a variation of the look. Ties are always an easy detail to add variation to a piece, especially dresses and tops.

This dress is made to be a little boxy and cool. Its a summer frock! Meant to be cool, breezy and easy to wear. It can be worn with ties cinched to bring more shape or a looser boxier look which has been on trend lately. I love it both ways! I did add elastic to the shoulder and back to add rouching at the shoulder. I felt it added an interesting detail and more volume around the collar of this dress.

This is such a fun cheerful piece! I styled it with a pair of neutral dad sandals with gold accents and accessories, it really gives it a chic look. I hope to be able to wearnit a few more times before Fall sets in.

Until Next time!
